Tomiko-San – Wilmington (Nord Carolina)
In the heart of Wilmington (North Carolina), within one of the city’s most refined neighborhoods, stands Tomiko-San, a Japanese restaurant that blends haute cuisine and signature interior design in a perfect balance of aesthetics and sensory experience.
Every detail, from the architectural rhythm of the spaces to the light that gently caresses the surfaces, is conceived to express a vision of contemporary hospitality where taste meets visual culture.

The concept
Tomiko-San was born from the desire to pay tribute to the spirit of Tomiko, a Japanese teacher close to the owning group, a symbol of balance and inner grace.
Her philosophy — quiet, essential, and authentic — becomes the conceptual foundation of the project: a place that goes beyond serving dishes to create experiences of harmony.
The menu, curated by Chef James Nash, draws inspiration from the tradition of omakase sushi, where each course is an expression of respect for the raw ingredient and the time devoted to its preparation. Pure flavors, delicate contrasts, precise cuts: the cuisine becomes a form of meditation, an artistic gesture in dialogue with the space.

The Design Intervention: Japanese-Style Wallpaper
In this context of balance and refinement, the Oasi wallpaper takes on a central role. More than a simple decorative element, it becomes a narrative presence — one that interprets the restaurant’s aesthetic vision and amplifies its visual language.
For Tomiko-San, a design inspired by the Orient was chosen: an Oasi reimagined through a tropical–Japanese lens, where nature and abstraction coexist.
Soft leaves and fluid branches merge with carefully measured empty spaces, creating a visual balance reminiscent of Zen gardens.
Neutral tones and warm accents harmonize with the natural wood furnishings and diffused lighting, generating an atmosphere of calm and contemplation.
The result is an environment that invites guests to slow down, observe, and savor every detail: not only the dish, but the entire atmosphere.
Instabilelab’s contribution helps shape a coherent narrative between food, space, and sensation, transforming Tomiko-San into a place where design meets Japanese culture and interprets its delicacy through an Italian perspective.
